Price is better though, you can find them for about 300 less than a Honda
I think if you google it, there are some side by side comparisons of the two, not made by either of the manufacturers. I've never seen the Generac up close and the few times I've seen a Honda, I was impressed.
Just saying it is worth a look if you are in the market for that size generator.

Re: which size honda?

A popular "portable" genny among my friends is the 3100w Champion. The features they like about it is it's very quiet, more powerful at 2800w continuous, it has a 30 amp socket and the remote/electric start.
It's also cheaper than the Honda 2000. It's $720 - $799 on Amazon.

Champions are cheaper for a reason, better than no-name clones, but quality and longevity nowhere near a Honda.

Robin Subaru's got a great rep too.

The honda 2000 is very popular among the Cruisers

which size honda?

I had two Honda 2,000's, one a companion so I could combine them.
With both running, they would run everything on my 30 amp boat that shorepower would.
However they were a pain to store and deploy etc. and I ended up with a built in 3500 W Nexgen.
At the time I was weekending, and doing the yearly vacation etc and therefore never staying at anchor more than maybe two days so setting up and storing was a pain, however if you are spending long intervals at anchor and don't need to constantly set up and tear down and store, they would have been a whole lot more palatable.
I may get another one as a back up to the back up so to speak.

The 2000 fits a sweet spot, about as powerful as you can easily pick up and carry and not too big to store, above the 2000 and they get big and heavy. One the video the Generac seems a lot wider than the Honda

I always thought that generator looked like a really good choice for a compact diesel generator. How many hours do you have on it? Have you had any trouble with it? Is it noisy?
