One would need to understand just what fails to engineer the best way to avoid it. Wiring connections are a source of trouble in my experience.
More likely than a cell failure itself? I would think so.

Exactly what I was trying to ask but got a brush off to an article instead of an answer. I'm really hoping he responds because I am legitimately curious as to what it could be. I geek out on this stuff and want to learn as much as possible but facts and evidence need to be forth coming.

Reminds me of some of my old engineering days. This paper has a start on the math of parallel vs series strings.

That paper is theoretical BS, not much to do with reality what comes to FLA's. Other type of batteries are not my interest.
Anyway the draw backs of paralled banks. Resistance in short, or the minor differences in resistance causes uneven loading cycles and premature failing. To avoid it you'd need totally independent banks and that would be fun.
From engineering point of view multiple banks might seem advantageuos, from technician view point they are a nightmare.
Now I'm of on holidays and will be sipping wine and having 4 hour dinners next two weeks and might be online with tablet time to time so my responses will be short. Provence, Camarque and Languedoc
Fair winds!
