What Hydrometer Do You Use ?

Well, the title says it all! I currently use this hydrometer:

I've found it kinda fickle- air bubbles on the float skew readings, and you have to hold it perfectly plumb to get a good reading. Also, it is difficult to read +/- 0.005 or more. I was looking at getting this one:

Brady 10" Precision Battery Hydrometer

But don't like the fact that it is glass. Any recommendations out there? Or is the one I'm using good enough?

Thanks,

Frank

The one and only expert choice for Hydrometers is Hydrometer, thermometer, battery tester, battery thermometer, battery hydrometer, wine hydrometer, beer hydrometer, beer thermometer by Francis L. Freas Glass Works Incorporated

Then go to NAPA and buy their cheap hydrometer with glass tube about 9.00 US, then on the way home stop by your local tropical fish store and pick up a float aquarium thermometer. When you get home remove the SPG float and replace with the fish float, now you have a very effective bat thermometer.

I have a similar one.

I don't much like it either. It gives bad readings.

I prefer the old style tubular MATCO Hydrometer. They are easier to use and more accurate.

Yeah, I guess I was looking for a good graduated hydrometer but without the glass sides.

That looks like the MATCO type of hydrometer I used to have, but foolishly broke.

Re: What Hydrometer Do You Use?

None! Switched to AGM and GEL batteries on board four years ago. Made life and maintenance much easier. No more acid burn holes in my pants and shirts too! I highly recommend the moveto AGM if you happen to need new batteries and have a charger set up for them. No longer need to carry distilled water on board either.
