Victron Phoenix 12/50 charger set-up

I've just replaced a Quick SBC battery charger (which cooked our House bank) with a Phoenix 12/50 charger. All straightforward, until I reached the section in the manual entitled 'Adjustments without remote panel'.

I thought I was buying a "Fully automatic adaptive battery charger", according to the blurb. Do I really need to make these manual adjustments?

The manual's description of the adjustment is poor and Googling hasn't helped. Can anyone shed any light? Anyone out there carried out this procedure?

[Note, our House bank is 4 x 150 Ah AGM batt's which I gather should have the max Bulk current dialled back a bit, hence wanting to follow up on this...]

Many thanks!

Re: Victron Phoenix 12/50 charger set-up

Automatic, as in you do not need to babysit each charge cycle.

There is no charge source that can configure its own settings.

Defaults are never optimal out of the box.

The better quality units have more options not less.

Poor units make assumptions and maybe cannot to the job right no matter what you try.

Learning is required, or pay an installer, who may get it wrong.

Post specific questions after some googling and we'll help you start climbing the learning curve.

Re: Victron Phoenix 12/50 charger set-up

According to the manual, it looks like you are at default 1 (Absorbtion 14.4/Float 13.8) which is how my Victron 75/15 MPPT Controller is set also

I haven't changed my default but now have a PWM controller bringing up the Float Voltage just a bit to 14 volts. It was the setting I last had on the PWM.

I have the MPPT on one panel and the PWM on another to the same battery bank (two 12 volt batteries in parallel)

Battery type: Default = 1 Abs. Voltage Float Voltage / Reduced Float Max.Abs.time 0:User defined 1: Sonnenschein Dryfit A200 Gel 14.4 V 28.8 V 13.8 V / 13.0V 27.6 V / 26.0V 4 hrs 2: Traction (Tubular plate) 15.0 V 30.0 V 13.8 V / 13.0V 27.6 V / 26.0V 6 hrs 3: Semitraction 14.4 V 28.8 V 14.0 V / 13.0V 28.0 V / 26.0V 5 hrs 4: Victory 14.8 V 29.6 V 14.0 V / 13.0V 28.0 V / 26.0V 5 hrs

shown on page 13 of the manual. https://www.google.com/search?ei=J8_...60.ziD4vFKihWA

You can check your battery requirements to be sure
