Victron Multiplus issues

Has any one ever seen anything like this:

Shore power runs to a Victron Isloalatin transformer and then to the Victron Multiplus.

This is a Brand New multiplus and was working fine until last week. I go to turn the a/c mains on the CB panel and instead of making the usual noise next thing i know there is a voltage alarm . the battery voltage is rising and is now at 15 .5 volts.

I look down at the Multiplus and the lights indicate it is Inverter mode , not charge mode.

I turn everything off and try it again, the Multiplus comes on line and goes straight to inverter mode with the AC power being fed to it. Same thing happens.

Heres the weird bit. If i disconnect the a/c in to the Multiplus, it works fine as an inverter,inverting form the battery bank.

Thoughts?

With brand new equipment nothing to be done except check the manual for fault-finding and contact the supplier if nothing there solves the problem.

You have read the manual haven't you?

Too expensive to risk voiding warranty.

measure AC voltage in and out of the iso transformer and into the multiplus.

Sounds like a possible problem with the automatic transfer switch?

Or, have you been playing with the settings and set it to inverter only mode in the software?

Hope it is the latter as that is easily fixed in situ!

Have had a Victron Multiplus for years. Installed several others in client boats.

I make it a practice to never use the Inverter mode unless away from the dock & shorepower, or when the onboard diesel generator is not running.

At dockside, you can choose the Charger Only switch position on the Victron, not the ON position with is both charger & inverter.

Away from the dock, I typically check to see that no high-current AC loads are connected (like A/C, heaters, water heater, battery chargers, etc.) before switching the inverter on. Then, I usually leave the inverter on so that 120VAC is available throughout the boat as needed. Works for me.

I had a similar problem with my multiplus. It was three months old, and would not charge just invert. It did not drive voltage up however. Victron replaced it under warranty. They are difficult to contact and slow, but they stand behind the product. It took me a year to get the replacement unit however.
