Victron/Balmar SG200 Setup

New setup primed for house bank monitoring. Victron BMV-702 & CCGX for coulomb counting and long term data logging, and the new Balmar SG200 for an easy to use state-of-charge.

It would have been nice if Victron would offer VE.Direct cable with two right angle connectors. It would be even nicer if they use a positive lock connector.

Warning to people, that Balmar shunt is must be mounted on a non-conductive surface. This is mentioned in passing in the manual, but easily overlooked. Everybody has their engineering oversights... I put a piece of Plexiglas between the shunt and the aluminum mounting plate.

With two shunts, I am placing the Balmar shunt closest to the batter bank.

Allan.

Why run 2 controllers for the victron? The color gx can set current limit and switch state. So the other is redundant.

You can also buy a network shunt. And display battery monitor on color gx. All on one screen.

Re: Victron/Balmar SG200 Setup

Nice set up!

Here’s another option to accomplish being able to monitor everything at once via an easy install... we went with a Mastervolt EasyView 5 in conjunction with a Mastervolt MasterShunt 500. Ours also seems to be working fine.

We had a rainy day yesterday, so not much of a solar charge went in. Today looks to be mixed sun and clouds, so the solar should get us back up to 85% or so. It’s nice to be able to see what’s going on.

Really clean setup, I appreciate the time it took to lay that all out. Nice panels, labeling

Re: Victron/Balmar SG200 Setup

Nice looking. I have a BMV-712 and I like it. I have considered adding a SG-200 as well just to see what it thinks my banks health is. I wonder how well you can get them to track. Keep us posted.
