Universal M-18 ammeter Removal

I have a Universal M-18 with the ammeter installation. I need this to be replaced to increase my alternator efficiency, remove the infamous "trailer connector" and to replace it with a voltmeter. Any ideas on what to do with the alternator output? I was thinking of jumping it less than a foot to the starter lug so it gets a direct path to the battery switch, then to the battery. would i have to fuse it? how would you do it?

Yes, that's what the factory / Seaward solution was. The fuse should be at the battery.

Re: Universal M-18 ammeter Removal

One point : there are two whole pairs of trailer connectors. I found the second pair buried under insulation tape inside the trunking.

It woukd be unfortunate to delete one pair and still have the other causing issues.
