Two alternators and an ACR

Hi
I'd like your wisdom on this setup. Its not a debate about wiring the alternator(s) direct to the battery, I wondered if I should still install an ACR?

With this in mind, would it be better to wire both alternators to the house side and use the ACR to charge the start battery? Obviously I always have the emergency switch to start the engine if the start battery is too low.

Anyway, many thanks for any thoughts.

Re: Two alternators and an ACR

this is a very common setup that I like. with 2 engines and 2 alts

do you have 2 engines or 2 alts on one engine? (you only have one starter showing)

are alts internal or external reg? or one of each?

if you only have one engine I probably wouldn't bother with the acr and run alt one ext reg with a big alt and alt 2 internal with a small alt.

though depending on charger outputs you may need acr for that.

Thanks smac999, only one engine, and both alternators have internal regs.

Both Alternators house side

Ok, here is a diagram with both alternators feeding into the house side and an ACR in place to top up the start battery.

This is how mine is setup, although the second alternator is disconnected (no load), I think the previous owner wanted it as a backup.

Re: Two alternators and an ACR

thanks sailingunity, I did see the balmar Max Charge MC-612-Dual regulator to handle two alternators but I can't really afford it at the moment, reading around I think it would be ok to go without, BUT, anyone who thinks otherwise, please let me know

Re: Two alternators and an ACR

I see that the ACR is connected from the (-) of the house battery to the (+) of the starting battery. Is that what was intended?
