Tesla House Battery

I’ve been looking into adding a lithium house battery to my campervan. Was planning on using CALB cells but I’ve come across these slightly used Tesla batteries and they seem to be an incredible value.

22.8V 5.3 kWh -$1450
Tesla Model S Lithium Ion Battery 18650 EV Module - 22.8 Volt, 5.3 kWh, EV West - Electric Vehicle Parts, Components, EVSE Charging Stations, Electric Car Conversion Kits

57V 3kWh - $690
Tesla Smart Lithium Ion Battery 18650 EV Module - 57 Volt, 3kWh, EV West - Electric Vehicle Parts, Components, EVSE Charging Stations, Electric Car Conversion Kits

Has anyone seen these used as house batteries? I’d like to charge off the alternator, solar and shore power. Since my van is a 12v circuit this would add some complexity of DC/DC converters in and out of the battery. Though I’m sure I can find solar controllers, chargers and inverters rated for the higher voltage.

Just trying to bounce ideas around here.

Use the Search box at the top of the home page.
Type Lithium and you will have more info than you will ever need.

Tesla uses lithium - cobalt batteries. These have the advantage of providing the highest power density, and the disadvantage of being a real fire hasard if you are not extremely careful. I would not use these in a DIY project...

Re: Tesla House Battery

Tesla packs are designed to be used with a battery management system AND an active liquid cooling system, they are not designed to just plug into an alternator. And that cooling system is also critical. FWIW.

CF is probably worst place to get advice on solar or battery installation.
You have to learn a lot yourself to make final decision. Great place to start - just search YouTube.
Tesla battery modules are great choice for battery bank (for anything, boat included). All problems, including water cooling, can be easily solved,
but again, you have to learn a lot of things yourself. Ready to use solution, even if exists, will be priced like space ship.

No one here but a few are any short of understanding how much "used" (or "toasted") are previously owned batteries.

And even more so when it comes to lithium, a technology promising 000s of cycles.

if they are from any crashed car, buy them for their scrap value and use them in your garage for testing and learning

And if your garage isn't built of concrete, have lots of fire extinguishers handy !

Also, research Tesla Radiant Energy, the Secrets of Cold War Technology pdf and feandft dot com since there are a lot of errors and psyops in the Secrets of Cold War Technology book. For starters, the nuclear atom model is bogus. The universe functions in vortices (as well as the sine wave), one of the esoteric meanings of the spiraling serpent. (Vortices are what cause the tides, not the moon according to Oahspe.) Next, the nuclear bombs were psyops. What they did was probably carpet bombing. Thirdly, what they refer to as the "ether/aether" is inert gases, but that could just be semantics. The periodic table is a spiral as Walter Russell's books explain. The inert gases are in the center. Other parts of the book are questionable, but chapter 1 on Tesla and radiant energy is important.

I need to buy a bigger BS meter shunt. My original shunt burned up with post #10. ;-)

I disagree entirely! CF probably has the biggest collection of highly knowledgeable people on solar and LiFePo battery installations, and other types of battery installations, as they relate to boats, on the entire planet. There is a wealth of information of an extremely high quality in the archives here.
