Re: Telsa designs house battery 6 months

ebs-
Maybe ten(?) years ago, there was a big kerfluffle about some hunters in Siberia who got radiation poisoning after they snuggled up to an aircraft navigation beacon on a mountaintop during a cold spell in the winter. Apparently....the Soviets had deployed remote isolated beacons powered with a strontium pile, a practical way to make power for long terms far off the grid. Except, as best anyone could tell? They deployed 2000 of them and could only account for 200 of those.

So somewhere out there, should be about 1800 handy portable nuclear power sources, ripe for the taking. Never did hear a follow-up, apparently when the USSR collapsed, some things were no longer anyone's job.

I'm waiting on the diesel fuel cell. Diesel is fairly safe to transport, has plenty of energy in it, and if it's burned in a fuel cell @ 85% efficiency, it will revolutionize power generation and propulsion.

I think a UK company was about to deploy them to the market in 2014?

I remember reading their leaflet prior to our departure in 2013.

A diesel fuel cell sounds interesting, I wonder do they have to create hydrogen from it via a reformer before passing it over a conventional hydrogen fuel cell membrane?
Anyone know more details?

This diesel fuel cell looks good:-

POWERPAC | Powercell Sweden AB

Not enough power for electric drive, but good enough for on board supplies. It generates enough to keep the batteries topped up - but you will still need the batteries to buffer the supply.

I understand and it was a great link. I just went off topic a bit.

Sorry. Should have posted it in the Pet Peeves thread.

I think a diesel fuel cell for a boat is a crap idea compared to a solar panel and standard lead acid battery.

Many boats need more power than that.

The fuel cell might be a good alternative to a diesel generator.

Love it.
Who else is making power cells?

Just looked at this and the comments.
DailyTech - Microsoft's New Fuel Cell Partner is Ready to Blow Away the Bloom Box

Sorta makes it more sobering. Less flash and all..... Too bad.
