ok im rewiring my switch panel.
I need some help.
to wire my bilge pumps and nav/anchor light
I have a 3 way switch on/off/on I am wiring the bilge pump man/off/auto with seperate indicater light when the pump is on. I want the ind light to be on when the switch is in Man and when in stby when the pump is activated. I need to figure out how to wire the switch my nav lights will be the same nav/off/anchor.

You will need to use DPDT (double pole, double throw) switch. Take the power to the centre contact, with a jumper across to the pair contact. When you flip the switch you can power the circuit you wish to activate from one contact, and the indicator light from the matching pair contact. Should be easy to find schematic on-line.

if im using the same ind. light then will this still work?

if you look down at the pump there is only 2 wires coming out 1. control 2. ground.

The way I have mine wired is when the pump gets power the light comes on, no matter if the power comes from the manual or auto/float.

As for your masthead lights, you have the same kind of double pull switch, coming from the masthead you will have 3 wires 2 contol and 1 ground you run the ground to a ground block and each control wire to the switch. on the back of a switch there will either be 3 poles or 6, your power runs to the middle pole either way and the control wires run to the end poles.

I have switches that have 3 poles. center is used for power and the other 2 for the load. if I jump the2 for the load with my indicater light will that work or not. sorry if im not getting this for some reason I just cant see the circut.

Let me try this.


Pole 1. control
pole 2. power
pole 3. control

that is how it should look on the back of the switch.
If you had a 6 pole you could jump the other side of the switch like that but with a 3 pole you can not. If you jump it at the switch like you state you will always have power.

The easy way is to run a wire from down by the pump where your control wires meet.

Also I would have a backup pump set at a higher level and you can hook up a buzzer (i use door bell) that lets you know you have high level water.

I will look up a picture on how to wire it for you.

Keep in mind to add another pump and Buzzer/doorbell.

I like the doorbell because you can get them now you can even program to say "your sinking" lol
