static windgen on mizzenmast - anyone know about these?

American flagged ketch i saw in glebe harbour recently has a compact windgen fixed to the mizzenmast - struck me as a damn good idea for my boat, i'm always on a swing mooring or swinging on anchor. The body of the gene looks about the size and shape of a smallish starter motor and the prop is a 2 blade...anyone know about these or is it a custom job?

Re: static windgen on mizzenmast - anyone know about these?

for what it's worth, my friend has a windgen above his mast. he made a bracket thats fixed to the top of the mast and even allows the windgen to swivel 360 degrees. he isn't a big time sailor, more of a liveaboard, so i don't know how safe
it would be sailing in heavy weather, but it works great at anchor....

I have noticed quite a few boats with this set up...fitted with a KISS Wind Gen, works well and the owner is very happy with it....

Re: static windgen on mizzenmast - anyone know about these?

that is probably the best overall setup, allows the gene to swivel for best output while sailing - having a non swivelling mount allows the gene to sit right up against the mast, simpler, stronger, more compact mount. thanks for the photos

Yep. Seen more such installations. Play safe with that main topping lift though!

Also, at the mast top of a single masted ship. Seen twice.
