Starter for port 350hp Crusader 454

Stuck in Deltaville, Va in search of starter for my 454bb Crusader port engine. Currently docked at Dozier and luckily got an alongside dock slip and didn't have to try and pull into or back into one with one twin down.

Are you considering having it rebuilt at an electric shop or going for all new ?

Re: Starter for port 350hp Crusader 454

Nosey aren't we ? Oh from out of town.

Some inboard installations used the same regular engine rotation on both port and starboard. Then the rotation of the propellers was changed in the transmission. Alot simpler. Maybe you already know this.

Yes Google is my friend and so is everybody here lol, per Google and my manual I do have opposite rotation engines and the starter I am in search of is the same rotation as standard automotive, double checked my port firing other to confirm 18436572.

Re: Starter for port 350hp Crusader 454

So where you guys been ? Laying back waiting for Matthew to pass ?

IMO you are having it pretty easy. Impellers, packing nut, starter.

Who could complain.

Re: Starter for port 350hp Crusader 454

Actually the first of the week leading up to Mathew I was gonna try and run it down but after it has sat for 6 yrs the fuel sending units are shot and misjudging fuel onboard I ran out a little better than 1/3 across from Chesconessox Creek headed to Stingray point for quick haul and bottom clean, I had an extra 17 gal in jugs that got me back to just off East Point, by the time I got straightened out I missed my quick haul window due to them switching to hurricane hauls so I got it back to Chesconessox and went back home 455mi on that Wednesday, let Mathew pass and came back up and got it to Davis Warf in Belle Haven for the quick haul and bottom clean on Monday and left out Tues with 325 gal capacity (2main, 3aux tanks) full. Well as I said it has sit 6yrs so halfway across the bay my starboard main runs out and I'm pumping muck out of my other 4 tanks that clogs my filters, luckily I had another 30gal in jugs on rear deck for backup and that got me to here, but with the motors stalling with the muck the port starter hung engaged a burnt it up before I could correct it. So here I sit again, at least I'm on the other side of the bay now, just not headed south like I should be.

Re: Starter for port 350hp Crusader 454

Nothing hard about being dead in the water in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay, both motors down hanging off the side trying to pour gas out of jugs with these new easy to use safety nozzles while the swells are bouncing the boat to its gunwales kissing the water surface. Piece of cake, fun in the sun.😉

"IMO you are having it pretty easy. Impellers, packing nut, starter", I did leave out rebuilding both carbs, lost both mechanical fuel pumps, dragging anchor and waking up grounded at low tide and so much more lol, so yepper easypeasy, love everybody for the help.

You've crossed the bay. I'm with you guys.

6yr old gas. Oh no. Your mechanical experience is gonna come in handy, heh ? Yea you did leave out the other hiccups.

Good news, everybody's still in one piece. I don't suppose this would be the time to...well...you promised photographs.

Re: Starter for port 350hp Crusader 454

Just a quick question though. Yours is a sportfisher design so isn't it made to take water over the transom without concern ? The scuppers drain the cockpit fast. However though, I hear ya, pouring gas from those safety containers, rolling around at the mercy of the waves, bad news with low freeboard aft.

Notice the green pickle flat bottom in the first pic is missing in the second, that was when I was out of fuel off East Point before Mathews arrival.
