Ssb email connections

I have a ICOM 802 ssb
I have used it effectively on the Caribbean 1500
I am now in the Indian Ocean. I am not able to connect to a station to do email. I am using Winlink
I am checking propagation tables and trying those with 80% or greater.
I have noticed that SWR flashes when I am trying to connect
I am thinking I need to check my antenna connections, and grounding connections.
Does anyone have further advice for me.
Bob

Hi Bob,

Certainly check all your connections, especially GTO-15 to backstay. People persist in using hose clamps for that which is just plain wrong.

Connection to backstay is interesting. Should it be connected to the terminal or the wire?
