Re: Solbian Solar Panels

Greetings everyone-

Has anyone purchased solar panels from Soliban in the past year or so that have proven to be defective? *We purchased eight new panels in October 2017 from AB Rosakis the reseller in Greece. *They were installed after we left the boat on the hard last October by Rosakis’ recommended installer.

The panels kept the batteries charged up over the winter as checked by the installer. *After arriving at the boat April 30 we noticed that the output was extremely low. *Without going into all the frustration and push back re the warranty, first with Rosakis and now with Soliban, Italy I can tell you the original installer disassembled our Bimini and found the regulators and wiring to be ok, but several panels were 100% bad - in his words.

If there are other instances of defective panels around this time period it should strengthen our argument re the warranty.

Re: Solbian Solar Panels

We had the Solbian factory in Northern Italy do our entire installation by shipping our bimini to them in May 2017 and again in October 2017 to add some additional zippers. Is it possible for you to ship your bimini and panels to the factory so they can determine the cause of the problem?

Can you post some photos of your install, so I can have a look?

Not sure how to send the photo.
Nonetheless thank you but I don’t need technical thoughts on the panels. I just want to know if anyone has had any recent problems with Soliban panels and/or their warranty commitments.

Re: Solbian Solar Panels

The flexible solbian panels that were on the boat I bought were installed in 2015 all were sun faded so there was no way I was replacing with the same.

I ended up buying some cheap Chinese replacement ones on ebay that have been working great for the last couple months

Re: Solbian Solar Panels

We bought five Solvian SP panels in 2015. Installed on our Bimini with velcro. Overall they are still working fine. However, one cell developed a fault, increased heat on one Spot and the plastic cover was „bubbled up“ from local overheating.
I tried several times to contact Solbian Support - but they completely ignored me. No answer at all. Mind you, no blame game, no trying to talk them into replacement (yet). I draw my conclusions.

You came here asking for help. I’ve done two recent installs during the same time period; do you want assistance or not?

Maybe the problem was caused by the install, if I can see it and know more details, then maybe I can make a suggestion. How is looking for other dissatisfied customers going to help solve your problem?

Re: Solbian Solar Panels

With the flexible panels isn’t it advisable to have a space between the panel and Bimini to keep air flowing and the panel cool?

Greg

Only if your Bimini isn’t made of breathable fabric.
