Solar Wiring Question

Using 8ga MC4 cables, do you run them inside a conduit to a thru deck fitting, or let them stay exposed to the sun/elements? The panels will be on top of a bimini.

How well do MC4 cables hold up in the sun?

What thickness aluminum bar stock do you use on the back of the solar panels for mounting rail attachments?

Hello,

The cables on my panels are cable tied to the supports, then have them enter into the fiberglass structure to be nicely hidden. The MC4 connectors seem to be as water tight as a frogs butt under water. No problems for over 8 years !!

I had the local Stainless Steel welding shop make me the 304 brackets holding my panels secure. I wanted the panels to look like they grew there, and off the shelf brackets needed too much modification, so custom was my best option (and cost less with perfect result).

I used 1/4" aluminum bar stock (ebay). I also expose the wiring as little as possible. But remember these are made to be in the elements so we'll see.
