Solar panels & shade

Are there solar panels that do better than most when the panel is partially shaded? If so... which ones are the best in dealing with partial shade on the panel and still supply adequate charge to battery banks (12 volt)?

Re: Solar panels & shade

Amophorous solar panels do better with shade, but they are larger for the same output so often more overall power will be produced by mono or poly panels of the same size even in potentially shady locations.
Amophorous panels also age more rapidly and are less durable.

A larger number of small panels helps, as does panels with more blocking diodes but there are no magic solutions. The best option is looking at similar boats and looking for successful mounting options that avoid shade as much as possible. Fit the largest number of watts you can. They will still deliver some current with shade.

Kyocera used to have some diagrams on their website on the expected output with various amounts of shade.which will give you some idea of what to expect.
