Shore Power Cords

I have a 50' 50 amp 125/250 shore power cord which consistantly seams to be 15' short for comfortable hook ups. Can anyone advise me on adding a 15' extension, and am I asking for problems?

Re: Shore Power Cords

You should be able to order and buy a 25' Marinco cord. Just check with West Marine or Defender.
I have a 50' and 25' cord on my boat...

Re: Shore Power Cords

Have you noticed any line voltage drop or additional heat by using an extension?

The cords are designed for the use. My meter never shows any flucuation. Can't tell if the cord gets hot or not, 104 outside today, cord is hot as hell with nothing on..

Power cables are always too short. A quick check of others in your area should confirm that extensions are ubiquitous. As long as they are properly rated, no problem with voltage drop of any significance. About the only thing you did lose was a couple of "e"s.

Re: Shore Power Cords

It would be fine to connect another 25ft to your existing 50ft'er as long as you are using a the correct 125/250v 50amp 6AWG 4core cable.
You can extend your cord with a 25ft shore power cord and buy a 50amp sealing collar connection kit which will then makes your cord to cord connection watertight for sitting outside.

i have 2 50 ft cords. the only thing heats em is sun.
how much too short is your cord?
i found i also need to keep a 6 ft extension, adapter and extra plugs, male and female, on board.

Re: Shore Power Cords

You shouldn't have any trouble adding an additional 25 feet as long as your old cable is in good shape. I would love a chance to sell it to you.
