Shore Power Adapters for the Bahamas

I've got a single 30 amp plugin on the boat and I'm planning to visit the Bahamas next fall. Should I pick up a 30 amp female to a 50 amp male pigtail while they're on sale at Defender or won't I need one? Or do I need some other adapter for the trip?

Here's what I'm looking at:
Marinco Pigtail 30 Amp Female to 50 Amp Male

Re: Shore Power Adapters for the Bahamas

Bahamas power is the same as USA, if you go to a marina that only has 50 amp you will need an adapter or splitter no matter what country you're in.

Right, but I have read that the single, 50-amp pedestal is more common in the Bahamas. In your experience, is that the case?

Re: Shore Power Adapters for the Bahamas

I'm on my second winter in the Bahamas. Many marinas here have only the 50amp receptacles. You definitely should have the adapter.

Thank you Captain Ron! Is this the suitable adapter?

You don't have to leave the USA to need that adapter. Many marinas in the USA have only 50 amp outlets or will put you I a slip with only a 50 amp outlet. Some will loan you one, some will not.

Which (maybe) begs the question: How often do you find only 100 amp outlets? Are there other adapters that you would recommend carrying?

Re: Shore Power Adapters for the Bahamas

100-amp outlets are for larger yachts; they're found normally in marinas which can accommodate the mega-yachts. Ours, Capital Yacht Club, has these but only on T-heads where the mega-yachts dock. Also available on the T-heads, though, are the 50A outlets.

Bottom line: get the 50A male to 30A female adapter. It's all you'll likely need.

This begs the question, 50A125V or 50A 125/250V?

Re: Shore Power Adapters for the Bahamas

I believe you'll find the 50A 125/250 to be the most common.

YMMV of course, as always :-)

So I should have both the 30 to 50 125 and the 30 to 50 125/250 or just the 30 to 50 125/250?
