Replacing Hubbell to CEE shore power connector?

On my "new" boat I'd like to replace the Hubbell shore power connector.

Some questions:

Am I right that I need the male type one? Otherwise the powered shore cable would give two live pins, leading to a nasty surprise...

The socket is quite exposed to the elements now, shall I go for an IP67-rated connector, or a standard IP44 would do? The Hubbell doesn't seem to be overly protected...

I also replaced my 2 x 30 amp connectors with the Smart Plug, I wouldn't go back to the Marinco type.

Marinco certainly not an option. This side of the pond all marinas I've seen use CEE, which doesn't overheat either. Being an industry standard, connectors and cables are available everywhere.

Also the standard in Chile and NZ.... NZ now requires the ones with the clear section so you can see at a glance that active and neutral are the wired up proper - can't find a photo just now..

Edit... and also the Falklands ... there is one one 'card operated' plug on the town jetty... bring a long lead

This is what I have at the ship end.. 'Male' in the cockpit ... waterproofed 'en passage' with duct tape.... if it isn't waterproof you aren't using enough duct tape....

My power lead has a female ship's end and a male plug for ashore... all shoreside plugs are female.

We replaced our fried 50A Hubbell [circa 1939 was the last design change to that hardware...] with the SmartPlug and our issues went away.

I also considered hard wiring the shore power cord but given we have an inlet on each side of the boat [use the most convenient one...] I didn't want to have 2- 50amp cords taking up space when 1 will do...

There you go complicating things... this will cause a blowout in your budget choosing fancy kit like that You are going to have to spend another 4 and a bit Euros on one of these Water protection caps for PCE CEE plugs - KRANWELTEN

If I was doing it again that plug and socket combo plus cover you have found looks perfect.

Yupp, in the middle of closing the deal. First obvious thing is to review the installed electricity and bin the worn, potentially dangerous parts.

Interesting. If that cap joint can be rotated and fixed on the connector, you have an IP67 connection even when plugged in. That's a bit of an overkill, I don't expect waves filling the cockpit in the marina
