Real Output of Honda 2000 ?

I've read the ratings for the Honda 2000 generator. 13.5 amps.

What is the real world continuous output of this generator?
13.5? higher? lower?

from what i have heard, after efficiency losses, that the honda 2000 is good for about 1.6kw, which is 13.33 amps at 120v, 133.3 at 12v... so yes the 13.5 is right in the ball park

The Rated continuous output of the Honda EU2000i generator is 1,600VA (13.33A @ 120VAC).

The Maximum (30 minute limit) output is 2,000VA (16.66 A @ 120VAC).

Right, I've read those numbers.

Looking for real world experience...are they accurate?

I don’t know about the “real” world; but they’re more or less accurate in my experience.

Yes. We have the 240v version so 6.6 amps. It runs our calorifier (wattage unknown, say 750w) and a 700w heater at the same time. Struggles when we also switch on the 40 amp battery charger so we only use two of the 3 at anyone time. Since the calorifier is up to temperature in about 30 minutes and then disconnected this isn't a problem.

And the max 16 amps for 30 minutes...what happens at 30 minutes? Auto shutoff? Fire? Explosions? Global warming?

Just beware of things that have 13.5 amp draws but "max" 20 amp draws. There's a lot of stuff out there that puts a big spike at the begining.

A continuous rating means that its not going to overheat and will have a reasonably long life. Above that and you have more heat and a shorter life. Honda probably set the breaker somewhat above the continuous rating.

The 133.3A @ 12VDC is through an battery charger capable of supplying that current. The 12VDC output of the EU2000i is 8A/96W. Just wanted to clarify that in case folks thought they'd get 133A directly from the genset.

Mu Honda 2000 will run about 30-45 minutes at slightly under 1500 watts before shutting down on over heat so the 1600 watt continuous is higher than on my own personal Honda 2000.

It even does this in the middle of the winter. I have had it back to the dealer three times for this and they say it is working correctly and that the "continuous" rating is a guideline. Honda did squat to fix or back the products claims even after I called them and spoke with tech support twice and sent them images of the current draw..

In my mind I paid for 1600 watts continuous and only get 1500 for about 30-35 minutes in sub freezing temps not quite what I bought it for..

My guess is that the internal inverters vary slightly in temp range. Just don't count on 1600 in hot weather, continuously, unless Honda has fixed the problem I have with mine. I would think many will do the 1600 but some, like mine, won't and one would think a great company like Honda would have tighter tolerances.

This shuts down my EU 2000 after about 30-35 minutes.

Have you ever thought about ducting the heat out of the lower lovered fins of the Honda 2000 and use that heat? I keep looking at it. Of course one would need to be careful to avoid the round engine exhaust port and I would also use a CO2 detector. But, there is a lot of heat pouring out the back of that unit. Would be nice to capture some of it even to keep helmsman warm on a nice fall sailing day.

Would be safer to use the 12v supply (often unused) and run it to one of those heated motor cycle body warmers which btw are superb bits of kit, you could even use the heated handle bar grips on the wheel or tiller .
