As much as possible use shielded wire with both ends grounded. Barring that if you have extra pairs (oops telephone man speak) eer, conductors, yeah that is the ticket, conductors, in a cable unused then ground them. This will greatly bleed off unwanted induction. Bond, bond, and bond some more is the rule we use in the telephone industry to have clean siginal w/o static, humm or interference. Needless to say a good ground is needed.

As for fluxgate, Ah aint tried that, YET.
