Re: PV market is shut off to China
I'm all for it if China is selling them for below their cost. If not, it's a bad idea. Trade wars always hurt the consumer. But then putting legitimate businesses out of business by selling your products below your cost causing them to go out of business which causes there to be an oligopoly or a monopoly, then that also hurts the consumer. This is an example of what a certain politician was saying about China's unfair trade practices.

PhotoVoltaic... solar panels
The big problem is that there should be enough demand to use up all of the solar panels produced in China, Germany, and the US.

Although easier than typing out the entire word, the problem with using acronyms is that not everyone will know what you are talking about. It's usually better to make a few more keystrokes unless you are certain your entire audience is familiar with the acronym.

Reading the first post enlightened me as to what PV meant and I was a C- student in high school.

Re: PV market is shut off to China
I wonder what other industries will be affected by increased tariffs and how will this impact the World economy??? I would venture a guess that things will get dicey if there is indeed a trade war.

Re: PV market is shut off to China
The making of solar cells is entirely in hands of the oil companies. Multinationals.
Of course they fire their political power if they feel attacked by unwanted competition. That's the whole issue nowadays why electric propulsion meet obstacles. Or solar cells to decrease your electric bills.

EXACTLY .
My deliberately ambiguous post earlier was to shake the trees and see who would come out on the side of "big business's" profit motive, and the principle of no such thing as too much renewable energy.

Re: PV market is shut off to China
This could be a really interesting thread. I have been casually following this story:
University Of Delaware-led Team Sets Solar Cell Record
Basically, in 2007, a team from the University of Delaware developed panels that had over 40% efficiency....delivered and harvested.....
So, it's been five years, where are these panels??? My guess is that big oil got their greedy paws on 'em and locked them up tight. Imagine if you will what panels that are over twice as efficient as the ones produced today would do to the demand on gas and oil???
Thoughts?
