Onan Generator is Giving random low oil pressure alarm

Hello, I have a 2012 4kw Onan Generator. It has been running fine and then gave a low oil pressure shut down only at start up. Oil level is correct and no Chatter sound when running. I clear the code and then restart and runs like a champ. The last time it took several times of clearing the code to get it to keep running. I am thinking the oil sensor is failing? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. I am headed to St. Martin as soon as the seas settle and can source parts there.

Sounds like you are the right track. If I remember correctly the connection is a simple spade connection, you might try cleaning it before you go hunting for parts. I had a corroded connection on my raw water sensor once and that took care of it.

Any time I have any Murphy switch shutting down due to low oil pressure, I like to verify it’s bogus. Easiest way to do that is to unscrew the sensor, and screw in a cheap manual oil pressure gauge.
You do of course have to wire past the low oil pressure switch.
Once in a blue moon, it’s really low oil pressure, and of course you need to fix that if it is.

Common faults in diesel generator set lubrication systems include: low oil pressure, high oil pressure, excessive oil consumption, increased oil level and oil pump noise.
1. Adjust the oil pressure.
2. Check for leaks.
3. Replace the oil.
