Max charge 614 question about alt temp sense

I just replaced a faulty mc-612 with a new mc-614. When replacing I noticed the alternator temp sensor was connected to the alternator neg terminal because the case bolts the instructions say to connect it to are too small for the lug they equip it with. The 614 instructions do not say this is a valid option for installation. Any reason this might be an issue with the 614? I'm thinking of sticking it on but afraid the current off the neg would maybe cause an issue.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I would recommend using a flat washer to attach the temperature sensor where Balmar specifies.

To answer your question; AFAIK, the temperature sensor is a thermistor potted into a ring terminal so having installing it on the negative post will not effect its operation.

What Charlie said. Only other thing I can think of is that the actual alternator case may get warmer than the NEG terminal. Maybe try measuring the temps of those two locations if you have / borrow an IR temp reading gun.

For what it is worth, Balmar states that they use an integrated circuit and not a thermistor/thermocouple in their alternator temperature sensor.

Thanks guys. I chose to mount it with the flat washer. Seems to be working great.
