Marinco Duplex Receptacle GFCI vs. Lutron, Etc.

Is there any specific marine technological reason to use an expensive Marinco GFCI outlet in our head vs. using a brand name version from Lutron or another company?

Re: Marinco Duplex Receptacle GFCI vs. Lutron, Etc.

All of the GFCI receptacles on my boat are normal home parts, as-installed by the factory and as-replaced by me when the parts experience normal end-of-life failures.

The only exception is when I added an additional circuit in the cabin. I selected the Italian Vimar GFCI US receptacle, so it would match the other existing parts, having their Classica cover plates.

okay..? Thanks for at least trying to answer.

The problem with many home depot products is that they are not marinized and are not able to standup to the abuses of a marine environment like salt air and dousing with water.

So, my question is if the Marinco or similar outlets are IP6x or are made of materials that are substantially better than that of the junk from home depot. Marinco really has no collateral that discusses these elements of their designs.

A 120VAC NEMA 5-15 or 5-20 duplex GFCI receptacle is not IP rated for dousing w/ water, either from Marinco or from the big box home improvement stores.

All will deteriorate w/ time and eventually require replacement.

If IP water protection is required, then that is effected by the enclosure and the cover. There are several options to keep out water from either an unused receptacle or one w/ cord(s) plugged into the receptacle, w/ the box oriented vertically or horizontal.

There is nothing "marine" about what Marinco is selling in their package. They are just repackaging a inexpensive Leviton N7599 or GFNT1 GFCI's. These GFCI's are one of Leviton's lowest end GFCI products.

We only install Hubbell or Legrand hospital grade GFCI's on our customers boats.
