Lombardini LMG 4000 review

Before I installed my Lombardini LMG4000 generator I looked for reviews. I didn't find any from real users, but it "seemed" a good design and the price was right ($5600 in 2016). Now with 2.5 years and 800 hours of use on it I decided I would write a review in case someone else searches for a review.

IT'S A PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!

I took better than average care of mine including changing the oil at less than half the manual period. It had a circuit board fail before the first 100 hours. It had the seawater pump fail and spray water inside corroding all the wires before year 2 (a pump is $1300 so hope yours fails before the end of the 2 year warranty). The heat exchanger failed at 725 hours. It couldn't maintain more than 50% load by 400 hours and you can't adjust the speed with it installed in the enclosure unless you cut up the enclosure. Finally at 800 hours it just plain failed.

I know 1 other boater with one and theirs also failed early and was more expensive to fix than replace.

If you are reading this as research to whether you should get one the answer is DON'T BUY ONE!!! It is not a deal in the long run (long being 2 years)
