Lithium Ion Battery Replacement Cost?

Does any one know an approximate cost to replace eight Trojan 115 6 volt batteries with two Lithium ion batteries in the EU market? Approximately 460amp hours plus. I'm currently in Italy. If anyone knows the price in the US market, that will also be helpful.

Our boat is a 24 volt system.

Thanks

Ken

Ken,

I purchased my Li battery system from Bruce Schwab and am very happy with the results. You can see a price list at http://www.bruceschwab.com/uploads/o...-by-size-1.pdf to get an idea on pricing.

You've probably already checked it out but your whole charging system needs a careful, exhaustive, review to make sure it can handle lithium batteries. Several threads on here about that. They can overwhelm alternators easily. And the cells/batteries must be regulated much differently than with LA systems. Absolutely critical to ensure you don't ruin your new batteries.

I should point out that this installation was done by NW electrical ace Brian Johnson of BRJ Solutions. He's great to work with.

Fyi, we have worked with several installers in Europe; most recently with Diverse Yachts (Diverse Yachts) and Osprey Technical (Osprey Technical). They are both in the UK however are often in the Med and elsewhere as they cover a lot of ground (or water).

It's worth reviewing the whole system to get the whole picture...as stated above you need to make sure all your charge sources can be properly programmed, etc.

Re: Lithium Ion Battery Replacement Cost?

Im rapidly beginning to realize there's a lot more to this than changing the batteries, having read through some of the lithium battery dedicated thread.

Hey Ken
Check out LiFePo4 Final designs for some good links to installed systems.
Seems like everything else, you can make it as complicated or smple as you like.
If you are looking to do it yourself, EV-Power.eu/ seems to have prices for cells listed. No experience with them at all.

FWIW, here is a diagram of a typical OPE-Li3 24V battery system and peripherals. This is a dual-bus (aka dual-channel) system with separate charge & load "channels".

Of course there are many other valid configurations and opinions, however after many years of working with Li systems we typically go with dual-channel and parallel but independent banks.
