Lithium Ion batteries? PAH!

I knew it soon as I saw people starting to jump on the LifePo4 battery bandwagon that something else might come along. I was resisting the jump since my 8A4D 48 volt AGM electric propulsion bank and 12 volt Gel house bank are still working fine after five years. Now along comes this news:
New all-solid sulfur-based battery outperforms lithium-ion technology
Guess I'll be sitting back and waiting a little more.

I noticed yesterday that Torquedo had a recall notice for their Lithium batteries posted in WMP--due to a potential fire hazard.

As soon as they develop batteries that put out more amp hours than I put in I'll switch from T105's.

I already do that.

It's all about balance,

Cut the loads with led's, aerogel, and add solar (320 watts with MPPT and LiFePo4's in our case).
No moving parts like wind generators.
Totally quiet, and you can run your Spectra, instruments, laptop etc. as much as you want.
Ice cream in the freezer too...

It will be interesting to see if they can get them from small scale tab stuff up to full size batteries big enough to actually do something with. The fact that they are 3 yrs behind the chinese as far as lithium sulfur batteries makes their patent idea a bit of a laugh. The Chinese use lithium sulphur batteries in their bus fleets, up to 30,000Ah cells with a standard charge/discharge rate of 1C. They are 310kg each though, so not quite boat batteries, but they do make 600Ah units. Check out Winston LSP batteries.
