Lithium battery breakthrough

Cost of lithium batteries will likely drop by up to 50% when this new technology hits production. Note that this is happening now ... 10000 batteries have been produced and are in testing with industrial partners!

Re: Lithium battery breakthrough

The cost of production is reduced by 50%.

However, when I read that "The process has received eight patents and has 75 additional patents under review; 24M has raised $50 million in financing from venture capital firms..." the cynic in me thinks that the developers and venture capital investors are going to pocket most of that savings because they don't need to cut the selling price by 50% to out-compete existing higher cost technologies.

Re: Lithium battery breakthrough

But the investors will want to sell product so they will lower the price sufficiently to be compettative and still make a profit.

I don't think you need to be cynical to come to that conclusion, it is common business practice. I run a $50m technology business. We are always looking at ways to reduce cost and we certainly do not pass all of those savings on to our customers. We do enough to win business only. This company (especially with pressures from the VC) will almost certainly do the same. I would be surprised if you saw more than 10% reduction in price for similar capacity.

Re: Lithium battery breakthrough

I'd rather have batteries built for users than for investors.

Re: Lithium battery breakthrough

It says hat the cost of production to be about $100 usd per kwh and good fla batteries cost about $120 per kWh to purchase so a purchase cost in the 160 to 200 USD would not be unreasonable and I would then seriously look at conversion to them
