Link 2000 Replacement

My Xantrex LInk 2000 has been acting up and may need to be replaced. In looking for a replacement, there just does not seem to be any simple option. The Link allows control of the Freedom charger/inverter and monitoring of 2 house banks (550 amps each). I have been unable to identify anything close. So called dual battery monitors only permit minimal information on the second (starter) battery and ignore the need to monitor 2 sizeable house banks. So far, it looks like the only option is to install a separate monitor for each bank. I am considering the Victron 600 or the NASA Clipper BM1. Are there better options? I would still need to operate the charger/inverter manually, unless those functions remain in the questionable Link 2000.

You could combine both banks into one large bank. Thats what I did and it works well.

Re: Link 2000 Replacement

Unfortunately, the 2 banks are of different types - 2x 8D Rolls wet batts and 2x 8D Fullriver AGMs- so does not work to combine. Plus, even if they were all the same type, one bad batt means you now have 3 old(er) batts and 1 new(er) batt, not a good combination. Less risk with 2 banks. We generally run one bank 50%, then switch for the next 50%, then run the generator.

NASA is a garage company and will not control a charger/inverter.

Try Victron as they make the full monthy. My other try would be Vetus (similar to Victron line).

We use the Trimetric, but again it is a monitor only and works with one bank. I like this one way better than the NASA.

Re: Link 2000 Replacement

ebay? find another one

are you sure it's the screen that's acting up and not the inverter? what is it doing? I've replaced a bunch of xantrax charger / inverters lately. they seem to be all dying.

Re: Link 2000 Replacement

going to bump this up as my Link 2000 appears to have died. No display and no power light. I have the sam issue as the OP have to control the freedom charger/inverter.

You need a Freedom remote control panel and a Trimetric 2025. I had one of those POS Links as well but I finally chucked it overboard rather than put up with the aggravation of owning it.

The only downside of having 2 separate panels is that you will have 2 separate panels but trust me, its light years ahead of the Link experience.

I've got 2 Freedom 25s. 1 of them still says Heart on the case - they're old.

Re: Link 2000 Replacement

Bob, thanks, I should have been clearer, I was asking Chris, the OP.

Our Freedom 15 is a 1998 model, which came with the LARGE cables attached, and no built in echo charger.

Reason I ask is that I ran that Freedom I/C WITHOUT the Link 2000 for many years until I installed the Link. It worked just fine by using the switch on the top of the case. In my situation, the Freedom is installed right under the nav station seat, so it is easily accessed. For other folks, who may have their Freedom units in hard to reach places, working it manually without the Link or a remote panel would be a PITA.

I asked about the year, because I don't know if the later models which required adding your own large cables and that have the echo charger, have a manual switch on them or not, in which case a Link or a remote panel would be required.

There's more reasons than just accessibility to have a remote panel. Load share and equalizing are easy to manage with the panel. Without it - not so much.
