Link 2000 Problems

This Link 2000 was purchased new and used for many years, functioning properly for monitoring my two battery banks. Currently I just replaced my battery bank (just have one battery bank at this time) and the Link 2000 went thru some gyrations but has settled down with all the indicator lites ON and the display OFF. I have tried the "Hard Reset" with no success. Any suggestions on where to go from here would be very much appreciated.

Any error codes? I just did the same thing and had no issues. Take both fuses on the wires to the batteries out, for at least ten minutes, and try again. That's what I'd do. I'll go read the manual again now, and see if I have any other ideas. Good luck.

No display what so ever. Just all the indicator lites illuminated. Tried the hard reset with all fuses removed for 30 min but same result when reconnected. Pressing any of the cells/switches produces no response.

Do you have a Freedom I/C and is the Link 2000 connected to it by a phone cable?

Do you have the printed OEM manual? The last few pages, before the wiring instructions, detail the reboot.

Thanks for your interest in my situation. I have a ProSine 2.0 I/C that is operated independently from it's own control panel which is connected via a phone cord--no direct connection to the Link 2000. Historically, I started out with a two battery bank system--each bank split to supply both 12V and 24V because I needed the 12V house current and was using a Heart Interface 24V I/C. After some attempt at monitoring my system with 'home brew' instrumentation I installed the Link 2000 to monitor only my battery banks. The 24V Heart failed and I ended up with a 12V Heart so reconfigured my battery banks to 12V only. After a second Heart failure I replaced it with the ProSine 2.0--12V. Now with more intermittent use, when the batteries needed replacement I decided to replace only one bank of batteries. Have not implemented solar to date. Maybe way more info than you were looking for.

Manual--yes I have my original paper manual--S/N#2522 (I believe)--as well as later digital manuals found online. Somewhere in the manual search I found a comment on using 30 min. for a hard reset which I have now attempted a couple times. Comment is also made in the newer manual about being "smooth" when restoring the fused power to the Link 2000 since it can get confused by several closely spaced power-ups.

Sooo-this is a fairly complete synopsis of where I sit. Currently, when connected--I use three independent fused leads for the two batts. and the Link power--the Link 2000 comes up with all the indicator lites illuminated and the display blank. Len

Got it, you used to have an I/C connected but no longer. Have you removed the phone cable from the Link? I know, stupid question, but I'm not there.

Also, this forum and sailnet seem to be the places where I've read the most about Link 2000s. There may be others, but a Google search / advanced by site, might help, but I don't recall reading one with your symptoms. I'd search on "Link 2000 reset".

I have shore power and had it disconnected although since the Link 2000 is not connected to the I/C this might not be an issue.

With the failure I have tried pressing various of the buttons individually and in combination with no response what-so-ever. All the lites stay on steady. It is this "all steady" part that has me a bit concerned.

Again, I appreciate your interest and suggestions. The search continues. If I do get the problem solved I'll definitely get back to you.

As "cover your bases" question: What recommendations do you have for a suitable replacement for the Link 2000 if it comes to that?

Microprocessor Reset Procedure
Overview
This procedure is more detailed than what is described in the Advanced Functions section on page 19 and 20
(page 30 and 31)* of the Link 2000 Owner’s Manual. Please refer to the Link 2000 manual for other information
regarding Link operation and reprogramming of the setup values. Please read and understand these instructions
entirely before beginning the procedure. Also note that in the advanced functions mode the Battery 1 button
becomes the “Reset” button.
To reset the Link 2000/2000-R Microprocessor
1. Disconnect the inverter remote cable from the rear of the Link monitor.
2. De-power the meter by removing the fuse from the red wire. If the red wire is connected to the blue or violet
wire, remove the fuse from the appropriate wire. If your meter is a Link 2000-R you can de-power the meter
by removing the gray ribbon cable from the monitor terminal board.
3. Wait at least 30 seconds before reconnecting the fuse (or the ribbon cable if you have a 2000-R). When the
fuse or ribbon cable is reconnected, use a continuous motion while making the connection. If the meter is
intermittently powered and de-powered several times in a short time period, the microprocessor may lock up.
4. Press the Invert and Charge buttons so that their LEDs are illuminated.
5. Select battery bank 1 on the Link 2000 by pressing the Battery 1 button
6. Press and hold the Setup button for approximately 10 seconds. After 5 seconds the setup LED will begin to
flash slowly. Continue to hold until the setup LED begins to flash quickly (about 3 times per second).
Release the setup button, press and hold the Battery 1 button for 5 seconds. A “0” (zero) will appear
momentarily in the display. If you do not see the zero, the meter did not reset and this step must be repeated.
7. Select battery bank 2 on the Link 2000 by pressing the Battery 2 button
8. Press and hold the Setup button again for approximately 10 seconds until the setup LED begins to flash
quickly. Release the setup button, press and hold the Battery 1 button again for 5 seconds. A “0” (zero) will
appear momentarily in the display. If you do not see the zero, the meter did not reset and this step must be
repeated.
9. Re-program the necessary setup values such as battery type, battery capacity, etc. Refer to the setup section
of your Link 2000 Owner’s Manual.
10. Press the Invert and Charge buttons so their LEDs are not illuminated and reconnect the remote cable to the
rear of the Link 2000.
*Newer style Link 2000 (Link 2000 above serial number 4000, 2000-R above s/n 2000) with “Time” function.

It appears my Link 2000 has gone beyond the "Microprocessor Reset Procedure".

After several attempts with "rest" periods ranging from 30 min. to overnite the results are all similar: Display is deactivated
Switches have no effect
Blue lead has no effect
Violet lead has no effect
Shore power has no effect
Most of the indicator LEDs--ON (some variation here)

Got some time to work on this problem but it looks suspiciously like a new monitor will be in order.
