LED cabin Lights for the Furgal Sailor
For the discriminating fugral sailor. I came across a listing for 2 RV LED lights for $19 including shipping on Ebay.
2 Pcs RV LED 12V camper Trailer Ceiling Interior Lighting Pancake Nickel 470 LM | eBay
These are warm light and very bright 470 lumen's, 6 watts. Makes a great cabin light for $9 ea. Roughly 9" x 5" and about 1-1/4" deep, surface mount. I am very happy with these. I was so happy, I just ordered another two. It's all plastic but has a current regulator IC, so life should be pretty good.

Re: LED cabin Lights for the Furgal Sailor
Not yet, They indicate a FCC approved (Hum) dimmable driver, so should be fairly noise free. I don't worry about it in the day as my cheap POS PWM solar charge controller radiates lots in the HF and VHF bands.
My cheap anchor light also radiates in the VHF bands. But then I don't talk on the radio at night anyway, so for me it's no biggy.

Re: LED cabin Lights for the Furgal Sailor
Thanks! I can't keep up with LEDs! Somewhat related, my friend put a few of these motion activated ones in various galley cabinets and hanging locker. They are great, no more hunting at night in the dark for a snack, as soon as you open the cabinet the whole boat (practically) lights up! And of course that means no way to sneak anything at night anymore either.

Re: LED cabin Lights for the Furgal Sailor
Sailorchic- Perhaps you are familiar with Part15. It doesn't mean much, even if the unit really has Part15 approval. Counterfeit stickers are common. Part 15 - Radio Frequency Devices A page from the ARRL putting Part15 in context: It isn't worth much to a "home" radio user. LED lamps should be commodity priced by now but like so many other things, you can't really tell the quality until five years (or thirty days?) after the purchase. At that price, you can't get too badly hurt either.(G) I've been intrigued by electroluminescent panels. At some point, we should be able to 'wallpaper' the walls and ceiling and just put light were we want it. Or perhaps, bioengineer fluffy cocker spaniels the size of roaches, that also glow in the dark.(G)

Bobtail squid already do this. They grow bioluminescent bacteria in a cavity in their head and have evolved a lens mechanism to control the amount of light they emit. They use the light as a camouflage matching the light of the night sky so as to be less visible to predators below them. Each dawn they eject 95 percent of the bioluminescent bacteria, keeping the top 5 percent performers to grow their light source for the next night.
And we think we are the only intelligent beings on earth...

Oh I quite agree with you, Part 15 is nearly pointless. Sounds good on paper but not so much in real life. That's why I take the FCC approved thingy with a large helping of "I don't think so". The FCC like UL does not approve anything. They merely certify that the device they tested complied with part 15, in a lab... once.
I will do some experiments with them. But as I already own a charge controller and a led anchor light (ok it's home made) and both emit local RFI, I'm personally not that concerned that a $9 led light might buzz my radio.
Gee I can just turn the cheap light off and wear that ever sexy head lamp....

Re: LED cabin Lights for the Furgal Sailor
SC, I'm kinda surprised that you are a "furgal" sailor. I had you more pegged as a jeans and sweatshirt kinda gal, not swathed in furs! Shows how wrong I can be...
Cheers,
Jim

Ah I've been caught with my pants down, again, as it were.
It's true I wear cats (Fur persons) to keep warm..... I is also cheap and have a slight dyslexia. Or I'm just demented, which makes my senior years oh so more exciting.

It's Voltage independent, doesn't matter whether they are 12, 120 or 240V.
Those lumens will still roughly equate to those standard incandescent bulb wattages.
