Hello to everyone in the Cruisers Forum;

I have a tech question and somewhat similar to other problems I have seen. I have recently purchased a 1999 34' Crusader sport fisherman and I am having a problem with my northern lights Luggar 3 cylynder diesel 6kw gen set. The generator with 400 hrs runs fine but produces only 8.4 volts when tested at the control box. The Gen I believe had not been in use for quite some time. I am thinking that there may be some corrosion in the slip ring and or brush area. Like others breaking down that end of the gen set tucked into a corner of the boat near the bulkhead is nearly impossible and requires a contortionist to accomplish. I have also noticed that this gen set has only a dc breaker on the control box and no ac breaker can be found. Inside the control box it has two large buss type fuses so would this account for no breaker? I would appreciate any input anyone could respond with. Or would a repair entail a new AVR that sells for $567 from Northern Lights.
