Kohler generator drip collection system

It appears I need to install an electric fuel pump on our 1988 kohler 7.5 generator. It has the drip collection system and the information I have found thus far indicates this system should be removed. Does anyone know if this can or should be done and how do I do it.

Thanks

Re: Kohler generator drip collection system

The drip collection system is a rather complex system which uses engine vacuum to take surplus fuel from the carb and recirculate it through the fuel pump. The system was apparently required by the Coast Guard at one time. I do not know exactly how it works because I have not been able to find any information on line.

Sorry no idea, I didn't even know you meant a gasoline engine until I saw carb.
I do know the rules get different with them, ignition protected electrics, flame arrestors on the carb etc.
I have never heard of such a thing. I would caution on an electric pump though, you may need a fuel pressure regulator, cheap and easy, just may need one.

Re: Kohler generator drip collection system

Yes we are currently running a gas boat and the rules are a little different. I would prefer not to use an electric fuel pump but the good folks at Kohler can no longer supply the mechanical type. From a survey view point I shudder at the idea of electric fuel pumps for a number of reasons. However, I must admit I had not thought about a pressure regulator. That sounds like a good idea that I will investigate further.

Kohler generator drip collection system

Some carburetors are meant for very low pressure and some pumps provide low pressure.
Many electrics put out about 5 PSI and can cause the carburetor to flood and drip externally.
Fuel pressure regulators are just cheap insurance is all.
Ones I am talking about you just literally dial the pressure you want, usually all it takes is 1 or 2 PSI
