Johnson 3.3hp...dropped in the drink..CDI?

Greetings All,

I successfully managed to drop my 1999 3.3hp tender outboard in the drink recently...I got it home in 30mins and did a full rinse thru everything. She fired up no problemo. I then used it a two weekends back and she ran OK...started etc.
She failed to start today after two weeks of laying idle...and on close inspection i noticed that water ingress could occur deep into the CDI unit...would this then have cause corrosion from the salt water swim?...with the unit just giving up the ghost?...I cleaned all connections today...little emery paper to make sure they were good...across several terminals, checked that shut off switch was not faulty yet, when I popped the brand new plug and got it to ground she showed me that there was no spark...

Any thoughts?

Hi Done it several times always stripped & cleaned in diesel. Check the plug lead (mine is an earlier mod) see if it is a high voltage lead which could be changed. Mine turned to copper dust & the spark just could not jump the internal broken wire. I cut the ends of & found it was still long enough & it still works.
