inverter won't work, Help

We have a Xantrex Freedom 2500 inverter/charger. When the shore power cord was plugged in a small light came on at the control panel. By this was labeled something about AC overheat. I unplugged the cord but, the inverter will not power up from the batteries. I tested the two large cables to the batteries and could not get a voltage reading. The large positive wire is connected to a VSR, Voltage Sensitive Relay Module. Could this have blown?
Can I bypass this and use a positive battery connection?
Any ideas?

I have no idea why you have a vsr in line. Are you sure it's in series or is it used as a jumper, and the vsr goes off to another bank? I doubt it could handle the inverter current if it was inline.

You should have a dedicated inverter fuse and battery switch between battery and inverter and that's it. With 2/0 or 4/0 cable not exceeding around 5'. Are you getting power from battery to vsr?
