Re: inverter takes out charger

Yeah, very likely. You need a pure sine wave inverter.

Those marketed as "modified sine wave" are actually modified square wave; some electronics, including small wall-wart chargers, don't like them worth a darn.

Re: inverter takes out charger

Yup.
You need a sinewave for some electronic devices.
The only things that work just as well on a modified sine are heat producing items and incandescent lights (also technically heat producing items).
Motors run hotter, although most work ok on a modified sine.

I purchased one of these a couple of years ago. No frills, but it works well:

Wife loves it. She can run her VitaMix on it to make smoothies, and I can run a big shop vac on it as well.

My wife's electric toothbrush doesn't charge properly even though my charger ( Xantrex ProSine ) IS a pure sine wave charger. It goes flat again very quickly. There is something weird about the way these electric toothbrush chargers work.

Re: inverter takes out charger

I use an Oral B toothbrush that takes a AA battery. I use a rechargeable that lasts about 4-5 months and can be recharged from 12v.. One less thing to use the inverter for.

Re: inverter takes out charger

As posted many chargers do not like modified sine wave inverters. The chargers for my drill batteries (Craftsman) specifically state "do not use with any inverter."

I have no experience with electric toothbrushes - I use a manual.
