from the Chinese Vanfo company for occasional use onboard. How do you think it would compare to the 8T one already discussed?

I know it is matter of need vs want BUT would it be a good idea to carry one on a 2 year trip to Indonesia & Thailand?

The metric version sold in europe and asia has normal sized chrome dies. The awg version sold by harbor freight and sold on the US ebay has black dies that are way too small. Some of the ebay guys have pictures of the metric one but sell the awg. The electric car buy the awg at harbor freight on sale for only $45 and drill the dies to be bigger, of course then they make a round crimp instead of hex. For the price its a very nice tool.

Hmm. The cutters could be a good deal....they'd only have to work a couple of times in an emergency, but it would be an EMERGENCY.....still, if they failed I'd be back to hack saws, I guess.

Just ordered the Ebay $129 version. Need to crimp a mess load of 2/0 cable. Will report once i get the tool. Seems like the way to go vesus the long handled manual ones as I can imagine them being tough on the arms after a few crimps.

I bought one off ebay for the same job. It worked just fine. It was great to make up the cables on the spot as I needed them.

I bought one the die are small. You can still use them to crimp it just flattens instead of nice hex shape. for $50.00 you can't beat it. You can always get a machine shop to make you some new die.

As was previously mentioned the dies are all mislabeled. Can any one comment on the correct dimention for a 0/2 wire? I was thinking I could measure some of the existing crimps but am wondering if there is a more preferred dimension.

On the ebay site the seller posts a table that equates 2/0 AWG with 70mm2. Do you find that this is accurate with this tool?

Need to get out the digital calipers but I can tell you one thing, 70mm is nearly 3 inches and there are no dies that size. I think from what I have been reading here:

That the 0/2 crimp should be .45 using the hex dies.

Just re read the Ebay listing. 70mm2 is not meant to be 70 millimeters. Will check this weekend and see if the 70mm2 die is .45

70mm2 is a little larger than #2/0 AWG.

I'm probably late in my reply, but I have this exact one and have been using it for 70mm2 cable (I think 3/0 for Americans) and it works great! Cost me about $50 from memory - from ebay too.
