A great option when you have the space for it. The only reason I was considering the DC option was because I'd be utilizing space already allocated. Converting the ice box.

Re: How Much Power does your Fridge Draw?

I'm using an ENGEL in freezer mode which draws about 2.8 amps (33 watts) when on. Two 75 watt solar panels keep up with the demand quite nicely.

I have a keel cooled Isotherm refrigerator (no recirculating pump) drawing average of 30 ah/day in the Caribbean.

Re: How Much Power does your Fridge Draw?

I have a separate fridge and freezer, both with air-cooled compressors, and they each draw about 3.5 amps when running. The hotter it is, the more beer I drink, and the more beer I drink, the more they run. In the summer we top out at 70 AH per day, and in the winter it's more in the range of 55-60 AH. I'm able to keep them happy with a couple 130watt solar panels.

I am running a 7 cf frost free, apartment size refrigerator with a 1800 watt inverter. Both units draw a total of 8.2 amps when running, about 40% of the time.

Re: How Much Power does your Fridge Draw?

We have separate fridge and freezer units. Both are water cooled Isotherm units. Not certain how they fare individually, but overnight (so for roughly 14 hours) we draw down about 70 amp hours when temps are in the 60 & 70's (typical NE US weather), but were drawing down 110 amp hours when temps were 70s and 80s in the Bahamas.

Re: How Much Power does your Fridge Draw?

We have a 4cf freezer with spill-over into a 6cf fridge run by a single Adler-Barbor cold machine with hour and amp meters connected. It runs 9-12hrs/day and uses 45-60 Ahr/day (depending on how it is used) in the tropics (90*F air temp, 85*F water temp).

Re: How Much Power does your Fridge Draw?

I have an older Adler-Barbor Cold Machine. The label on it says it draws about 5.4 amps. I'm still trying to get to know the unit. First time I used it, I didn't see the temp adjust knob and it froze all the water I had onboard. It's a pretty good unit.

Re: How Much Power does your Fridge Draw?

when i looked into units, i found the ready made units were way over rated. if they said they could 6cu' they really only did 3 or 4 so make sure you look at the specs closely. i have a 13 cu' icebox that i converted and bought a sea frost air cooled system that draws about 6 amps. it was twice as expensive as the prepackaged unit i saw for sale. when i called about the 12 cu' package they told me it wouldnt do 12 cu' even though the advertisement said it would. they would not give me a reason why they advertised it as such but were pretty clear i should buy a bigger unit.
