How long will a floated battery last?

How long will a new, clean, unloaded battery connected to a proper battery maintainer last?

I've come by a couple 6 volt deep cycle batteries that I have on float in my garage. Debating whether to sell them (for a song, probably), or just keep on float until my boat batteries are shot (at least a few years).

Personally, for anything over a year I'd look into selling them. You're in Washington State, correct? Find an electric car club around you, or if golfers are active put an ad up if they are compatible golf cart batteries.

Or if they are in better shape than the ones you have now, even marginally better shape, you can swap the batteries and then sell your old boat batteries and keep the better ones.

Either way, old stuff breaks even when it hasn't been used much and a couple years is a bit of time spent tripping over some batteries while you are wondering if they will still be working when you need them.

Replaced the no name GC batteries in my boat after 4 years. That was largely do to my neglect and a too hot charge from solar panels. Didn't check the fluid level often enough and it got down below the top of the plates on several occasions. Have installed remote refill kit and hope to do way better with this set.
