Here are the photo of my Northern Lights 5kw generator. It is in the port lazarette and I had a custom sound enclosure made.

This is the custom sound enclosure I had made. I have 65 decibels in the cockpit.

Re: How big a generator?

Very nice

I never thought of using a soft cover for soundproofing, but it is a good idea.

See the Victron website for some very good documentation.
Have these come down substantially in price?

I looked at them a couple years back and for the cost, there was no savings to be had.

How big a generator?

Moonos:

The company that made my soft cover was in S Fl in 04 when I had them make it. I have lost their contact info. A mechanic at Turner Marine in Mobile said he had seen several like mine. I suppose someone is still making them. They are made out of lead lined material like radiologist use. Works really well. You have to put the frame in, then figure out where all the hoses, wires etc. need to pass through, send them a template and they make it up.

Re: How big a generator?

Does anyone know what materials were used for soft cover for fire rated generator sounproofing?
Is thread a special type? Velcro or zippers, do they need to be fire rated?
I suppose same material that you wrap your muffler with could be used on the inside, but I am wondering what soft/stitchable soundproofing material can be used that is fire rated or does it have to be fire rated if its sandwiched in fire rated material?
