Honeywell 2000i and Honda 2000i Portable Gens

The Honeywell is $499 and the Honda is over a $1000. Honda weights 48 lbs and Honeywell weighs around 58 lbs. Anyone had any experience with the Honeywell portable generator?

$600 is alot of money for something that is a backup charging unit in case of emergency.. I will deal with the noise for that kind of $$

The Honda (at 48lbs + fuel/oil) is at the upper limit of what can be lugged round a boat.

Why not go for the smaller Honda if your main use is charging. Cheaper and lighter.

The main reason for buying the larger generator would be to run the larger power tools and kitchen appliances.

I'm wondering from the on-line reviews I found (about the Honeywell) how new it is as the ones I found are all within the past 2 months. Clearly it is far cheaper than a comparable Honda so my suggestion is go for it - you can be our beta-tester.

By the way, they advertise it is a Honeywell engine - how long has Honeywell been making engines and where do they do it??????????

Lastly, this price is not $600 more than Honda which I've found (and bought) for around $800.

Don't under estimate the noise factor, you can have a normal conversation right beside the Honda. I haven't personally heard the Honeywell but I have been around a few other cheaper gens and they are MUCH louder than the Honda. Not a big deal if you're at a backyard bbq or something and it can be placed far away, but on a boat it can only be so far away from you.

Just my 2cents.

There's some good review sites out there if you can find them.

3 years on deck with lots of salt water hitting it and it still powers my Oita 70 amp battery charger & runs about 12 hours on a gallon of gas HONDA $800 USD

According to a few different sites the Honeywell 1000i and 2000i have only just been released. i.e. April/May. This is going to make any review very difficult as there is no track record for these particular gennies longevity.

Honda is king in Australia.

I don't know anything about the Honeywells, but I agree with Freerider. There are plenty of cheaper portables/semi portables on the market. AFAIK they all work fine and AFAIK they are all LOUD. The primary reason for the Honda's popularity is that it is relatively quiet - and for regular use on a sailboat that's worth something.

Yes, we still have Queen Elizabeth II as our head of state. Charles is next!

There have been several attempts to change but the alternatives (mainly head of state appointed by the Prime Minister) look worse.

The people look to want an elected head of state but the powers that be want to appoint their own.

I don't think that Honda have a Royal Warrant of Appointment.

Not sure how hard you looked but a simple internet search will give you the answer you seek, e.g., Wise Sales, et al all have deals on these for around $800. Ebay really isn't indicative of comparative shopping.

Let us know (if you compare) how much noisier the Honeywell is than the Honda - also, do check to see who really makes the engine...

You can get a Honda EU2000i for about $850 no freight charge in the US. Just check the online suppliers.

Have not found Honda 2000 for $850.. Anyway Honeywell is an excellent company. The builder of the generator is probably chinese and they are great copy cats.. and cheap. Walmart has them for $549.00. Honda is around $1000 to $1100 with free shipping. As for noise, this unit is backup only and you can bear with a little more noise to have this kind of safety in electrical backup.
