Honda EU 2000i Companion Generator

Ahoy,

I have a Honda EU 2000i Companion generator and Freedom Marine 25 charger. Are there any settings that need to be changed for this combo to work via shore power outlet? Thanks

While I don't know anything about the freedom 25, I haven't found anything that is unhappy with the little Honda's power, as long as you don't overload it

ProMariner said in that setup, be very careful of the grounding. Be sure to ground the generator and the charger.. As far as I know, being a land animal, the generator's chassis is connected to the ground wire and, being a marine charger, the Freedom 25's chassis is not.

I've been wondering about the ground comment myself, if it weren't grounded, would it be proper to only have a two prong plug? Having three and the ground plug not connected to anything? Can't see Honda doing that.

Re: Honda EU 2000i Companion Generator

I run a honda EU 2000i on my boat and use it to run the battery charger and refrigeration while at anchor. I do not ground the generator using it's onboard ground strap because the generator is connected to the boat's shore power. My shore power has a galvonic isolator in the circuit too. If your shore power connection isn't grounded to a through hull fitting or the engine and shaft, then I would run the ground from the generator overboard using wire.

I thought this was what an ELCI was for? To prevent current leakages from the AC originating on the boat. The Honda is simply acting as a shore plug.

It will work fine without doing anything. We used a 2000 for years with several different battery chargers. If it concerns you, open up the outlet on the generator and jump the green ground wire and the neutral white wire. Problem solved and you won't see the faint light on your reverse polarity, which is a false reverse polarity with the Honda. Chuck

this will work fine together just make sure the polarity is right. it will show open ground put this means nothing as your are floating the system genset to boat charger
my 1000 came with leads with alligator clips so I can go directly to the battery as need be for direct DC power say in a jumping situation or when you have run the batteries down and need to start the engine or yopu have a 12 vdc air compressor and need to blow up the raft
