Honda 2k Gen Able to Run Equalize Battery Circuit?

I am wondering if my Honda 2000i genset has enough poop to run the equalize circuit on my heart interface 2500 watt inverter charger? I dont want to burn up the generator....

If it runs the bulk cycle, it will run the equalize just fine. Equalize will be low amperage, so won't take much power from the gen.

Re: Honda 2k Gen Able to Run Equalize Battery Circuit?

Should not be a concern in equalization mode as the batteries should already be charged up and not drawing that many amps during this stage.

Otherwise the max you can charge with the Honda depends on the output of the charger section of the Heart 2500. How many amps or watts DC does it make in charger mode? Also would help to know the spec for the power factor of the charger.

I believe the Honda 2000 is rated for 1600 Watts continuous. That would be a theoretical maximum of about 133 Amps at 12V DC but of course you are charging at higher than 12V plus you have to account for other factors. So in practical usage probably should not power a charger putting out 75 to 100 amps DC max for very long.

At maximum (bulk charging) output, your Charger/Inverter will be at or above the upper limits of your Generator’s capability. Notwithstanding (as previously noted) it should “equalise” without problem.

The Freedom 25 is rated 130 Amps (@13.8 - 14.1 VDC), or about 1800 Watts; but “equalizes” at less than 10 Amps (< ±158 - 163 Watts).

It's always nice to have theoretical answers. To add to the responses, I do it all the time and the Honda runs fine.

Re: Honda 2k Gen Able to Run Equalize Battery Circuit?

I have equalized my batteries with a Honda EU2000i. The most difficult part of the operation was re-filling the gas tank while the thing was running. Be very careful.
