High Voltage?

Recently acquired old boat, the high voltage buzzer sounds when the engine is running. The voltage is 12.7 without engine running, 14.7 with engine running.
The engine is a Perkins 4108. The previous owner said "Oh, just hit the wall next to the buzzer and it will turn off". That works.... for about 5 seconds.
Is my alternator putting out too much voltage or so I have a faulty high voltage buzzer?
