Help with 12vdc Sockets - Not Cig Lighter Type

Trying to figure out the type and find plug ends to fit the 12 volt sockets on my boat. I ordered a Sea Dog "Polarized Cable Outlet - 12 Volt" plug/receptical set from Defender thinking they were the same - Nope, doesn't fit. They're 12 volt, two-pole with an outside diameter of 11/16". I've got one of these in each cabin as well as the cockpit, so I'd rather find plugs to fit the recepticals as opposed to replacing everything with Sea Dog or cig lighter types.

I've got a hand held spotlight and Bebi cockpit light that I'd like to put appropriate plugs on.

Any help on IDing the socket, and sourcing plugs to fit?

It looks similar to the socket on my antique (maybe 30 years?) Autohelm 1000, the grandfather to the Simrad ST1000 tiller pilot.

I wonder if they're European? I've never seen that design before. I would have thought the Sea Dog "Polarized Cable Outlet - 12 Volt" would have fit.

I would suggest that it may be easier to replace the sockets with ones that are readily available.

Yes, they don't really look all that hardy to me.

The polarized outlets don't have a tab like that, one pin is significantly larger then that.

The Engel uses a regular Cigarette lighter plug, and a socket on the unit wit flat pins (not round)....

To me, those look like the sockets that would have held cheap running lights, like something you would buy at K-mart and put on a bass boat.

I think you would do well to simply replace them with the standard lighter sockets... that way all your cell phone chargers will plug in without an adapter.

Perko, Hella and Aquasignal (I think) all make polarized plugs with good plug covers.

I would replace them with standard sockets. If they are that much trouble to find plugs for, how are you going to replace them when they go bad. Then you will have mixed up sockets. And you still have to hack off and replace the plug on every 12v appliance you buy. The cig lighter style I can buy in any store. And everything I buy has that plug on it, and it is rated for the high currents larger 12v items use.
