| Heliotubes - New Scientist Article
Interesting article in the Dec 9-15 edition of New Scientist. The abridged web version can be found here. The principal idea is to cut down the amount of expensive photovoltaic materiel and instead, rotate sunlight focussing tubes to maximise solar input. Expectations this will cost one third less than comparable panels. Output is 175W for a 1.8 sqm panel. Due on the market next year. Practical Instruments, who make this product, are also working and a 2 plane follow the sun panel too. Weight could be an issue as well the whole idea of moving parts in a marine environment. Still - interesting idea to follow.
