Heart Freedom 20 stopped charging

Hey all,
I have a Heart Interface Freedom 20 with a Link 2000R Remote. Everything works fine until we entered a marina and I wanted to use shore power. I have 120V going into the unit. I have 120V after the 30A fuse that you can reset at the front of the unit. I have 120V after the small fuse inside the unit that is labeled 'F2'. However, he does not charge the batteries. There is no indication on the Link 2000R that there is AC power coming in (there is).

Any tips/tricks or should I start looking for an expert?

Thanks! Arjan

Have you checked the Link 2000R? They are notorious for failing.

The more recent versions have a couple of internal fuses. Did you take the cover off and check those? Beyond that, it may be cheaper to replace unless you can troubleshoot.

Re: Heart Freedom 20 stopped charging

thanks for the replies. There are two internal fuses. F1 and F2. I have 120V after F2 but nothing after F1. I guessed F1 is related to the inverter function and F2 to the charger. Cn not find any info in user-install guide.

How do I check the 2000R? it is a smooth little box with only a couple of wires coming out of it. Is there a fuse inside?

Thanks for all/any comments!

I had a Link 2000R but it was along time ago....can you disconnect it a and try the Freedom without it? It's not required, I remember that much!

Is the fuse blown?

Re: Heart Freedom 20 stopped charging

Had a freedom 20 and 2000R. Charger died. Was in Cartegena. Electronic wis there told me it was the small card edge conecter. I removed the small card. Cleaned the card edge and the socket. Put a small amount of silcon dielectric greese on it and put it back. Worked ever since. About 6 years. The later models have gold plated contacts so not as much of a problem. Don't know if it is your problem but won't hurt to try.

No I don't remember the name. He is German and has a shop just down from where you get the swarmers. Ask at Club Natico.
Let me know if it helps.

I have a Freedom 20 which has worked flawlessly for many years, but now is not producing any charge output on its "echo charge" connection. Everything else is working just fine.

Ideas?

The echo charge has an inline 15 amp fuse between the inverter, and the second battery pos...post/bus. That's most likely your problem.

To the OP, have you checked to see that the new marina has the correct polarity. Reverse polarity on the input of the freedom will equal no-charge, but allow the inverter to pass power on to the 120 bus. Albeit in reverse lighting the neutral, and returning on the line-1, which can be very dangerous for anyone on board.

Llyod,

Yes the shore power polarity is correct. And the main charger is working fine...just the echo charge has no output so the fuse sounds like a good candidate.

Thanks.
