grounding with shaft saver in place

Hi All,

I've been overhauling our DC system and one issue has been nagging me for a while now. Our DC system is grounded on the engine (as usual), but we have a plastic shaft saver between the gearbox and the flange on the shaft. This means that the engine is isolated from the shaft and propeller and the path to ground doesn't go out into the water. We had a mechanic looking at the engine in the fall and when I asked him about it he said it wasn't a big deal. Our electrical loads are pretty modest, but I keep wondering if this could be causing any problems.

Thanks!

You can put a jumper wire between two or more of the opposing bolts. Or just keep an eye on your shaft zinks.

Problems? That is different for everyone.

Install a shaft brush and cable (#6AWG) it the the main ground (in your case the engine)

I'm okay with leaving the system as it is, it works just fine, but I'm concerned that I may be damaging the engine or engine mounts somehow. Is that possible? or am I being paranoid? (paranoia is entirely possible)
